Our December newsletter contains a note about end-of-year coverage and new resources
|
Happy Holidays! FreeWill encourages all of our partners and team members to enjoy the holiday season with those closest to them! As we support our team members, here is a schedule of FreeWill year-end holidays and our Partner Success team coverage.
|
-
FreeWill as a company will be closed on 12/25, 12/29 and 12/31.
-
The Partner Success team will not host check-in calls for the week of 12/25-12/29. Your Strategist will be in touch to ensure you have everything you need and reschedule any recurring meetings.
-
If you need urgent assistance from 12/25 through 12/29, please reach out to partnersuccess@freewill.com.
|
We believe that providing members of our team with this window of time to reset and reflect will situate us to better serve our partners in 2024. We hope you will be able to do the same!

New Resource: The IDEA of estate planning
|
In 2024, FreeWill is focused on equipping your stakeholders with the one essential tool necessary to take agency over their lives, and with your help, their Legacy. We’re sharing a new resource that delves into estate planning through an Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) lens. Time and time again, estate planning has proven to be the foundational building block of generational wealth creation; however, many individuals are not afforded the privilege nor opportunity to safeguard their wishes or their loved ones.
Our new eBook, The IDEA of Estate Planning: Harnessing Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility in your Planned Giving Outreach contains:
|
-
Why estate planning is a matter of IDEA
-
Research that delves into what estate planning has looked like for different communities in the U.S.
-
Tips on how to do your own research and frame language that may be relevant to your audience.
|
We welcome your feedback to help inform the next iteration of IDEA-focused estate planning pieces. Please share any comments with your Strategist.

👀 New regulatory requirements affecting your organization
|
In our November newsletter we outlined recent California legislation regulating online fundraising platforms, expected to take effect in early 2024.
Once finalized, the proposed regulations under this law will require FreeWill to conduct daily checks of registries maintained by the California Franchise Tax Board, the Attorney General of California, and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). If your nonprofit organization is listed as being not in good standing on any of these registries, FreeWill is prohibited from allowing you to use our platform for fundraising purposes. Note that this requirement is applicable to all U.S. charities, not just those headquartered in California.
In other words, if your nonprofit organization is not in good standing and appears on any of these governmental agency blocklists, your organization may lose access to FreeWill’s tools until the matter is resolved.
What are your next steps? You should regularly check the Franchise Tax Board, California AG, and IRS to ensure your organization remains in good standing.
