Hi Friend,

No tricks here! This spooky season we have only treats for our partners — including Make-A-Will Month learnings, advice to make the most of year-end, and a sneak peak of our new Planned Giving Report!

🎉 3 Ways to Make the Most of End-of-Year (EOY)

For many of your donors, EOY is the time to give! Some organizations see up to 50% of their gifts come through the door in the last two months of the year. Here are three actions you can take today to make the most of EOY:

  1. Participate in FreeWill’s EOY Smart Giving Campaign: This year’s campaign focuses on repeated messaging and integrating into existing materials your organization may already be sending out. Click here to view the 30-minute recording and download the PDF presentation, or reach out to your Strategist by November 3 to request EOY content!

  2. Access the Print Marketing Library: Check out the brand new Print Marketing Library for your year-end desktop printing needs! You can access Smart Giving Suite-related materials in the Library directly from the Portal or the Partner Resource Hub.

  3. Attend a training: Join FreeWill and representatives from Mercer Advisors on Tuesday, October 24 at 3:00 PM ET for tips on connecting and partnering with your donors’ financial advisors to maximize your donors’ philanthropy — now and in their retirement. Register here! You can also explore the courses in our Smart Giving Certificate program to jump start your smart giving knowledge.

Last chance — don’t forget to share your thoughts!

Your feedback is so valuable in ensuring we bring you the best possible partner experience. Don’t forget to take our annual survey — search your inbox for “Your FreeWill experience” and share your thoughts in just a few minutes!

Make-A-Will Month Findings

Another year, another Make-A-Will Month behind us! We’re excited to share that 75% of our Planned Giving Suite partners participated in this August’s campaign by sending outreach to their donors. Here are some top-line stats on how this campaign performed:

  • Partner outreach raised $58 Million in bequests. As always, standalone email content was the most effective way to generate gifts, resulting in 94% of all Make-A-Will Month gifts.

  • 61% of partners that sent outreach saw a bequest during Make-A-Will Month. This underscores the fact that sending outreach is the best way to inform your donors about using your FreeWill tool while giving them an avenue to give back.

  • “What is Make-A-Will Month?” was the most successful framing option in securing bequests for our partners. Similar to the most successful framing option in past campaigns, this was our “educational” offering, which shares with donors the importance of having a will in place.

Thank you, again, for making this Make-A-Will Month a smashing success! National Estate Planning Awareness Week is right around the corner, and we’re looking forward to sharing new learnings with you soon.

FreeWill’s 2023 Planned Giving Report is here!

Extra extra! We analyzed the data of over 260,000 estate plans from the past year to bring you our 5th annual Planned Giving Report. Here’s a sneak peak at some key takeaways:

  • As more individuals go online for estate planning, more are choosing to leave charitable gifts.

  • Younger will-makers (18 to 24) make up the smallest percentage of FreeWill users but are the most likely to include a charitable gift in their estate plan.

  • Religious organizations and Housing and Shelter organizations receive the highest average charitable gift amounts.
