🤔 What have we learned from Smart Giving campaigns?
|

It may feel strange to celebrate Tax Day—but at FreeWill, we recognize the season as an opportunity to analyze and learn from our Smart Giving Suite campaigns!
We recently hosted a discussion with members of our team and FreeWill partners like you to highlight the key learnings that are informing our 2025 strategy. You can view the full recording and access the slides here, but here are some top takeaways:

Smart giving is on the rise. From 2023 to 2024, our partners raised 40% more dollars across our Smart Giving tools. Those numbers are trending upwards —already in 2025, we’ve seen a 50% increase in Stock giving and over 200% increase in DAF giving on FreeWill.
→ Our recommendation: Investing in smart giving and sharing it with your donors is essential to diversify your funding streams.

Sending content matters. The majority of smart giving happened at end-of-year, but sending outreach throughout the year is key. 74% of gifts made at the end of 2024 were raised by partners who sent at least 1 piece of SGS outreach in 2024. Partners who sent content earlier also tended to get more gifts.
→ Our recommendation: Start sending SGS outreach earlier rather than later! We recommend two campaigns per year—if you requested Tax Season content for April, now is the time to make sure it’s scheduled!

Website language + outreach is the perfect combo. Partners who send outreach and incorporate language about the SGS tools on their website see more gifts and a higher dollar amount of gifts.
→ Our recommendation: Ensure your products are incorporated and visible on a Ways to Give page or Donate page!
